Today I learned that the reason that upper case and lower case letters are called "upper" and "lower" is because that is how they were shelved back in the printing days. The capital letters were used less frequently, so they were kept higher up, while the rest were kept on a lower shelf because they were used all the time and the lower shelf was easier to access.
